    Bone Cold Night
from the album Wrong Side Of The Door
    TOP OF PAGE
When I was a younger man a good friend told me
Just be careful of how hard you fall for her
When she left I never felt so cold and lonely
Things will never be the same as what they were

Though it's been a long cold winter since she left here
I remember how it was in every way
I can see her eyes and hear the words we said here
I recall it all like it was yesterday

Well she froze me in my tracks
Made me shiver like the time
That I lost my coat and hat
       For that long lonesome ride
In a Ford that had no heat
       On a Bone Cold Night

I don't know how it can keep on getting colder
Even when the sun is shining hard and bright
Well they say that Spring will always follow Winter
But this chill has wrapped around my heart so tight

It's moved in and will not go
Makes me shiver like the time
That I lost my coat and hat
       For that long lonesome ride
In a Ford that had no heat
       On a Bone Cold Night

And how can I ever try to love another
With a heart that's frozen solid, yes I swear
It's as though I wake up from the same old nightmare
Just to take that same cold ride out to nowhere

       I can't love if all I feel
Is the freezing, like the time
That I lost my coat and hat
       For that long lonesome ride
In a Ford that had no heat
       On a Bone Cold Night

       On a Bone Cold Night

    Feeling Red White And Blue
from the album Big Book Of  Love
    TOP OF PAGE
Red's for the firefighters buried by the blaze,
Red the Cross and red the blood we gave.
White and blue the workers' collars, trapped in mangled graves,
Truest blue the brave police who perished trying to save.
These colors are the way I feel right now. How 'bout you?
Are you Feeling Red White And Blue?
I'm still Feeling Red White And Blue

Red's for the hatred and the madness it incites,
Vengeance that can never make things right.
White the halls of justice, calm and mercy, healing light.
Blue is for the sky we watch forever, day and night.
These colors are the way I feel right now.  How 'bout you?
Are you Feeling Red White And Blue?
I'm still Feeling Red White And Blue.

Grey is for the ashes some return to all too soon.
Green is for the greedy, plotting now in secret rooms.
Yellow vigilantes - how low will they descend?
This crazy quilt of violence blinds us all in the end.

Red's for our anger at the shameful way they killed
not armed soldiers but just folks whose backs were turned.
White is for our vision as we build from what's been burned.
Blue's our metal, tempered, forged in fire, stronger than steel.
These colors are the way I'll always feel. How 'bout you?
Are you Feeling Red White And Blue?
I'm still Feeling Red White And Blue.

    Golden Day
from the album Wrong Side Of The Door

    TOP OF PAGE
Someone somewhere today is having a Golden Day.
I pray that this is the day when sunshine will come your way.

    It's a big world when you're small,
And a hard world when you fall.
It's a New World  growing up with an old dream coming true,
And it's turning and turning, it will turn to you, and

Someone somewhere today is having a Golden Day.
I pray that this is the day when sunshine will come your way.

    It's a mean world when you're poor.
There is peace here, then there's war.
There is plenty for the few, but enough for me and you.
You can turn it around if you know what to do, and

Someone somewhere today is having a Golden Day.
I pray that this is the day when sunshine will come your way.

When the whole world seems cold
      And you're feeling too old
      And it's hard to hold on to your schemes;
When you're flat on your face
      And out of the race,
Can you jump back in place and be true to your dreams?

It's a tough life at its best
    And it will be repossessed.
Maybe now you're down and out, but if you can stick it out
You'll find joy and prosperity, I have no doubt, and

Someone somewhere today is having a Golden Day.
I pray that this is the day when sunshine will come your way.

And someone somewhere today is having a Golden Day.
I pray that this is the day when sunshine will come your way.

    mmmBuh-Bye
from the album Big Book Of  Love
    TOP OF PAGE
Now everytime I find myself at home here alone
I can't resist temptation, have to pick up the phone
I call and say hello, but then, no word of a lie
I just can't wait to hear her say it: mmmBuh-Bye

It's just a minute later when I call her right back
She must think I'm some kind of telephone maniac
I don't know how to stop myself, no word of a lie
My love grows every time I hear it: mmmBuh-Bye

    mmmBuh-Bye, mmmBuh-Bye, I love to hear her say mmmBuh-Bye

I might call ten or twelve or twenty-five times a day
I never have important things that I need to say
I just make up excuses, 'cause no word of a lie
I love her for the way she says it: mmmBuh-Bye

I know it's an addiction and I try to abstain
But every time she says it, it just drives me insane
Sometimes I call her back right then, no word of a lie
I have to hear her say it once more: mmmBuh-Bye

    mmmBuh-Bye, mmmBuh-Bye, I love to hear her say mmmBuh-Bye
Can't wait to hear her say it so I call her and then
I try to cut it short to hear her say it again

    mmmBuh-Bye, mmmBuh-Bye, I just can't get enough - mmmBuh-Bye
I don't know how we'll ever find a way out out of this
Can't really say good bye because I know I would miss
The sweetness of her voice, that special way that she says

    mmmBuh-Bye, mmmBuh-Bye, She says it every time - mmmBuh-Bye
I just can't live without the way she says her so-long
I know that I should tell her, but she might think it's wrong
I never want to make her cry or get her upset
I wonder what might happen if we actually met

    mmmBuh-Bye
(Alright listen, I have to sign off now, time to get back to work, ok? Ok - mmmBuh-Bye!)

    mmmBuh-Bye
(Ok, I'll let you go now, I have another call coming in, I'm sure you understand, yes, um-hmm - mmmBuh-Bye!)

    mmmBuh-Bye
(Well, I have to get back to work now, my boss is calling me,  Oh yes, I'm sure you will - mmmBuh-Bye!)

    mmmBuh-Bye
(Sir, sir, I really have to hang up now - mmmBuh-Bye!)

    mmmBuh-Bye
    (Alright, um-hmm, mmmBuh-Bye!)

    She Walks In Three-Four Time
from the album Big Book Of  Love

    TOP OF PAGE
She walks straight here from Saturn everyday
She walks by you and everyone that way
The dust she raises turns to misty dreams
This beauty Walks In Three-Four Time it seems

She doesn't speak the languages we know
You cannot measure by the status quo
The songs she sings are not the kind you hear
But beauty Walks In Three-Four Time it's clear

The rhythm's three times six by four times three
The beat just bounces by relentlessly
You thought you knew the meaning of sublime
But then you saw her walking by In Three-Four Time

You cannot follow where she seems to dance
She holds off all admirers with a glance
It ain't no use to try and hold her eye
Her Walk Away In Three-Four Time is her reply

The dreams she makes you dream are true somewhere
An other-worldly light comes off her hair
Her trail of broken hearts must be a crime
It's all because She Walks In Three-Four Time

The rhythm's three times six by four times three
The beat just bounces by relentlessly
You thought you knew the meaning of sublime
But then you saw her walking by In Three-Four Time

I swear you'll never find her secret place
You'll never fathom all her kinds of grace
You'll lose your mind before you understand
She Walks In Three-Four Time and never lights on land

Her face could launch a thousand galaxies
Her perfume brings whole armies to their knees
She never seems to notice what's behind
It's just the way that Walk In Three-Four Time's designed

from the album Big Book Of  Love
    TOP OF PAGE
Isn't it funny, I thought it was you
There you were in the spotlight alone
I was just passing by on the street when I saw
It's okay, I was just going home

Hasn't it been half a year, give or take?
Have a drink, I enjoyed your new show
Maybe sometime we'll get a few minutes alone
But 'til then I have further to go

Going home - on my way
I'm rolling down old easy tracks
So long, so long, my wandering days
    So long I cannot tell
A lot of dust behind me now
And few that know me well
    Few that know me well

Saw two or three people moved by your songs
I'll admit that at times I've been thrown
Once I heard that old record that you made in a dream
And it's then I was on my way home

Going home - on my way
I'm rolling down old easy tracks
So long, so long, my wandering days
    So long I cannot tell
A lot of dust behind me now
And few that know me well
    Few that know me well

    Can't Get To You
from the album Wrong Side Of The Door
    TOP OF PAGE
I can build you a mountain, I can walk on the moon,
I can fly like an eagle, I just Can't Get To You.

I can make you a rainbow, I can break any bank,
I can wake the Pharoahs, I just Can't Get To You.

Your Mother loves to see me, and your Father is impressed,
Your sisters all adore me, I just Can't Get To You.

Your boss just called to hire me, and your car wants me to drive,
Your preacher wants to save me, I just Can't Get To You.

CHORUS:    No matter how I try
Nothing I say ever seems to move you
           No matter what I do
I can do almost anything, but I Can't Get To You.

Hollywood is on the phone, The Mayor shines my shoes,
Casinos try to ban me, I just Can't Get To You.

The President, the Prime Minister and the Pope all want me happy,
Dogs and children love me, I just Can't Get To You.

CHORUS:    No matter how I try
Nothing I say ever seems to move you
           No matter what I do
I can do almost anything, but I Can't Get To You.

I can outsmart the devil, I can outrun the wind,
I can outlive the ages, I just Can't Get To You.

I can be very clever, I can look very nice,
I can do all or nothing, I just Can't Get To You.

CHORUS:    No matter how I try
Nothing I say ever seems to move you
           No matter what I do
I can do almost anything, but I Can't Get To You.

    Can't Get To You.
I can leap over rivers, but I Can't Get To You.
    Can't Get To You.
I can rearrange the planets , but I Can't Get To You.
    Can't Get To You.

    Do Me In Again
from the album Wrong Side Of The Door
    TOP OF PAGE
Unglue me just like that again and
Knock me for a loop and then
Undo me and then Do Me In Again

Come turn me all around and send me
Round the block and back again
Undo me and then Do Me In Again

I thought I had a mind but now I'm not sure where it went
And you could say the same about my knees
If this is what you do for starters, what's the Main Event?
And shouldn't we work up to it by degrees?

Come trip me and then pick me up then
    Turn me inside out again
Undo me and then Do Me In Again

Unravel me and reel me in
Now fold me back, now stretch me thin
Undo me and then Do Me In Again

If I remember who I am you'll help me to forget
In here it doesn't matter anymore
And everything outside just seems so petty since we met
Is this the lovin' we've been looking for?

So spend me and upend me when I'm
    Almost right side in again
Undo me and then Do Me In Again

Come finish me, then start back in
Until we can't tell yang from yin
Undo me and then Do Me In Again

    Helping Hand
from the album Wrong Side Of The Door
    TOP OF PAGE
Everyone's a feature in this play
And what you do or say
Can make someone laugh, make someone cry, everybody has the power

You don't have to rise to lead the band
But like a grain of sand
Just touching one is touching all for all are touching someone somewhere

I don't care if you are great or small
This world is here for all
And we are all connected in so many different ways together

No one can be separate from the rest
Not at our worst or best
And if at once we saw the ties that bind us all the sight would blind us

Everybody needs a helping hand - Everybody needs a friend
Everybody needs to be the one with a helping hand to lend
Sometimes you need a helping hand - sometimes you need a friend
Sometimes you can be the one, you see, with a helping hand to lend

Sometimes I feel big as I can be
It just helps me to see
That when I'm down I might need you, then turn around, be there for someone else

Everyone from sea to shining sea
Is part of you and me
So if we try we all can see the good that grows from helping others

Everybody needs a helping hand - Everybody needs a friend
Everybody needs to be the one with a helping hand to lend
Sometimes you need a helping hand - sometimes you need a friend
Sometimes you can be the one, you see, with a helping hand to lend

Everybody needs a helping hand - Everybody needs a friend
Everybody needs to be the one with a helping hand to lend
Sometimes you need a helping hand - sometimes you need a friend

    Sticky Boiled Beans
from the album Wrong Side Of The Door
    TOP OF PAGE
Grandma made the biscuits, Papa made the soup
Mama made the beans and just enough to feed a troop
Sister made the table, just as pretty as you've seen
So what makes me so doggone mean?

Sticky Boiled Beans and biscuits made of stone
A gallon pot of soup with nothing in it but the bone
The sight'll make you sorry, the smell'll make you moan
But I'm very very hungry so leave mine alone

God made all the greens but Mama made them grey
She swears they're not the same ones that we had the other day
You have to clean your plate up if you want to be polite
So what makes Grandma look so white?

Sticky Boiled Beans and biscuits made of stone
A gallon pot of soup with nothing in it but the bone
The sight'll make you sorry, the smell'll make you moan
But I'm very very hungry so leave mine alone

What I wouldn't give now for a great big juicy chop
A heap of mashed potatoes, you know, with the gravy all on top
A cool fresh salad, some old French wine
But don't you know exactly what I'll find?

Sticky Boiled Beans and biscuits made of stone
A gallon pot of soup with nothing in it but the bone
The sight'll make you crazy, the smell'll make you groan
But I'm very very hungry so leave mine alone

Mama tries her best now and you know she means so well
That if I said what's on my mind, I'd wind up in Hell!
Papa'd be the one to kill me, but you know something, I don't care
Say, I wonder what they eat down there - no, I don't...

Sticky Boiled Beans and biscuits made of stone
A gallon pot of soup with nothing in it but the bone
The sight'll make you sorry, the smell'll make you moan
But I'm very very hungry so leave mine alone

Sticky Boiled Beans and biscuits made of stone
A gallon pot of soup with nothing in it but the bone
The sight'll make you crazy, the smell'll make you groan
But I'm very very hungry so leave mine alone

     Go and get your own
     Leave mine alone

    Song Of Love
from the album Big Book Of  Love

    TOP OF PAGE
    Love - They say love is a wound that will heal;
    Love is only a flaw.
    They say love is a wayfarer passing;
Love has somewhere far to go.

    I say love is a lamp in the darkness;
I say love is the Spring.
Will you love me a moment, a lifetime?
    Let love be a light for us naïve believers;
Love can make a someday now.

    Life - They say life is a dream that will fade away;
    Life is only a play.
They say life is a spark in the dampness,
    Gone, faded before its day

    I say life is a song sung in harmony;
Life is wild birds in flight.
Will you fly with me now and tomorrow?
    Let life be a dance for us children in Springtime;
Life can be our garden now.

Life is a game full of gambles we must play blind.
Love is a free flying shadow, so hard to find.

    They say love is a wink in a crowd;
    Love is only a tease.
    I say love is a cool breeze in August;
Love, with all its scars is what makes life worth seeing through,
    So, will you love me?
    Love me for I will love you;
Just come and love me now.

    Blue Lightning
    Truly fright'ning

I remember the sky, falling down with you
Crashing thunder, the night turning blue
I thought it would blind me or blast me apart when that
Blue Lightning flashed into my heart

    Dangerous beauty, frenzy of light
Hot like a fire but ten times as bright
I thought you would burn me, torching my brain when that
Blue Lightning snapped open your chain

      Blue Lightning, shocking blue fantasy
Truly fright'ning, I loved it, just couldn't see

The sky has gone black, you were gone in a flash
I feel the fire but I'm holding the ash
These blisters inside me are out of control since that
Blue Lightning branded you on my soul

    Oh, Oooh...

     Blue Lightning, shocking blue fantasy
Truly fright'ning, I loved it, just couldn't see, oh

    Love in Action
from the album Big Book Of  Love

    TOP OF PAGE
You love to tell me all the news, the weather and the scores
Your stories pour out in a chain reaction
But here's another subject I would like us to explore
Say no more - just show me Love In Action

    Love In Action

When we're hungry, just to hear some talk about good food
Won't fill us up, won't give us satisfaction
In fact it hurts to hear it; now, don't think of me as crude
I'm in the mood - come show me Love In Action

    Love In Action
    Hearts in harmony
    Minds and bodies dancing
We both know how good love will be

Your voice can be the sweetest music I have ever heard
Its melodies can be my main attraction
But here's a time when nothing but the rhythm is preferred
Don't say a word - just show me Love in Action

    Love In Action
    Hearts in harmony
    Minds and bodies dancing
We both know how good love will be

The words must mean so much to you, you love to hear them said
I love them too, but know they're just a fraction
And ears that long to hear the words are easily misled
Let's go to bed - I'll show you Love In Action

    Love In Action
    Hearts in harmony
    Minds and bodies dancing
We both know how good love will be

    Dreaming Out Loud
from the album Wrong Side Of The Door
    TOP OF PAGE
Yes, my mind was wand'ring but it's not just what it seems
Something you might say, and off I go into my dreams
Yes, I guess I lost you when I went around that cloud
Hold me down, I'm Dreaming Out Loud

Some things could be easier if you would understand
All that I can be is just exactly what I am
Try all day to change me, but I'm not much like the crowd
You'll still find me Dreaming Out Loud

Down into some day dream - Up around some rainbow cloud
If I say the wrong thing - Guess that I was Dreaming Out Loud

    Don't you think I know it's not a contest or a game
Knowing me, you had to know the rules were not the same
I don't care much when they say what's wrong or not allowed
I'll just go on Dreaming Out Loud

Down into some day dream - Up around some rainbow cloud
If I fly the wrong way - Guess that I was Dreaming Out Loud

Never mean to hurt you with the things I do or say
Turn the clock back, mostly I would be the same old way
I never did and never will forget the things we vowed
Even when I'm Dreaming Out Loud

Come in and listen to my dreams
Where nothing's ever what it seems
Where I'll be flying without wings
Just like it always feels to sing

Down into some day dream - Up around some rainbow cloud
If I sing the wrong song - Guess that I was Dreaming Out Loud

I know nothing's perfect, I just want to make a plan
I'll take you for what you are, you take me like I am
Maybe it could never work because we're both too proud

    Sushi Sue

Sushi Sue, she's a heck of a handful
With her you never know what your fate is
She'll turn to you just as soon as she can
Clearly  see where the bottom of her plate is

Sushi Sue, she'll get around to you, and you'll see there's no getting around her
She'll always be more, never less than you want, so admit you're so lucky you found her

Turn your back when she's hungry, boy
She'll chase you all the way up-stairs, she'll have you laughing to tears
That was her plan all along, boy
She's gonna trip you up and grip you up and dip you in some hot
She's gonna smile, she's gonna hum, take you down in one shot

Sushi Sue, she knows what is most pleasin'
Nobody could have warned you about her
You'd better be ready, she's always in season
Pretty soon you'll feel empty without her

Sushi Sue, she'll get around to you, and you'll see there's no getting around her
She'll always be more, never less than you want, so admit you're so lucky you found her

Sushi Sue, she is the girl for you

As bad as it is 'til she's fed, boy
It's even worse after sushi, see, she gets so turned on
Wasabi goes straight to her head, boy
Then there's nothing she won't do to make it fabulous for you
And there's nothing she won't say to get things headed that way

Sushi Sue, she's much more than you hoped for
They all say she's just built that way, boy
So take some deep breaths, time to warm up and stretch
And you'd better be ready to play, boy

Sushi Sue, she'll get around to you, and you'll see there's no getting around her
She'll always be more, never less than you want, so admit you're so lucky you found her

Sushi Sue, she'll get around to you, and you'll see there's no getting around her

This Is What They Call Love?
from the album Big Book Of  Love
    TOP OF PAGE
    Everything's tilted, everything's blurry
Can't straighten out one crooked thought you have
    Everything's fuzzy, everything's cloudy
Can't walk a straight line - This Is What They Call Love?

    Everything's flighty, everything's foggy
Out of control, your thoughts are off the wall
    Everything's dreamy, everything's drizzly
Can't shake your head clear - This Is What They Call Love?

So you ask around and you ask your friends - Is this what you call love?
Though they try to help, maybe they don't know - maybe it's something else
Like a rare disease or an alien plot - something without a name
Or a cruel hoax, or some ancient gods having fun with you in some game

Feeling like falling, running then crawling
Can't get a grip, confusion is the rule
Hands are all shaky, head is all sweaty
Losing direction - This Is What They Call Love?

Feeling so dizzy, feeling so helpless
Vision is glossy, steamy thoughts all day
Rubbing your eyes and scratching your head
You can't figure out why - This Is What They Call Love

And you thought that you'd been around the block, thought that you'd seen it all
And you thought you knew all about this love - what did you really know?
You've been fooled before, you've misled yourself - been asleep at the wheel
Gotten off the track, taken all wrong turns - that never felt how this feels

Thought it was easy, heard it was heaven
Who's kidding whom, and what's the big appeal?
    Everyone always calls it fantastic
Someone explain why This Is What They Call Love
They're out of their minds! - This Is What They Call Love?

    Loves Me, Loves Me Not
from the album Big Book Of  Love

Time, time time, since the time when time began
Man loves woman and oh yes woman loves man
Even if it's crazy, even if it's sane
Even if it makes you fall and forget your name
    It's all the same

    "Loves Me, Loves Me Not,
    "Loves Me, Loves Me Not,
    "Loves Me."

Time, time time, oh since time way out of mind
People tell you, oh look out 'cause love is blind
Even if you lose your head and lose control
Lose your balance sometimes, yes, even lose your soul
    You just don't know

    "Loves Me, Loves Me Not,
    "Loves Me, Loves Me Not,..."

Love will mess you up, love will fix you too
Love will knock you out, love will turn you blue
Love will call to you, love will run away
Love will save you, but love will make you pay

Time, time, time, they will tell you time heals all
Even if you've lost at love you hear the call
People tell you, look out when you start to fall
Hard to speed things up and oh, harder still to stall
    But it's all right

    "Loves Me, Loves Me Not,
    "Loves Me, Loves Me Not,
    "Loves Me."

    Getting Nothing But Old
from the album Wrong Side Of The Door
    TOP OF PAGE
You spend all your evenings alone now
    Mostly looking at her photograph
You sing all your love songs from memory
For memories are all that you have

And there's nothing so wrong as the nighttime
With no one beside you to hold
And nothing so long as a lifetime
When you're Getting Nothing But Old

You never payed too much attention
It all seemed ok in your mind
She even tried telling you straight out
But you brushed her off every time

Now there's nothing so wrong as the nighttime
With no one beside you to hold
And nothing so long as a lifetime
When you're Getting Nothing But Old

Love starts out all magic and flowers
Like nothing could ever go wrong
But love needs its care and its feeding
Now all you have left is this song

Oh, there's nothing so wrong as the nighttime
With no one beside you to hold
And nothing so long as a lifetime
When you're Getting Nothing But Old

You know now the ways that you hurt her
The times you were stubborn and wrong
If you could you'd turn back the hours
And sing a much happier song

But there's nothing so wrong as the nighttime
With no one beside you to hold
And nothing so long as a lifetime
When you're Getting Nothing But Old

Oh, there's nothing so wrong as the nighttime
With no one beside you to hold
And nothing so long as a lifetime
When you're Getting Nothing But Old

    The Rules Have Changed
from the album Big Book Of Love
    TOP OF PAGE
Nobody says excuse me, says hello or holds the door
The way some people act you'd think we had a state of war
A whole new generation now has known no other way
The Rules Have Changed Now, Haven't They! It's not like yesterday

That great big supermarket's not your friendly corner store
Nobody ever meets your eye or smiles much anymore
With everybody's hurry more important than your own
The Rules Have Changed Now, Haven't They! Civility's unknown
Rules Have Changed, Rules Have Changed, Rules Have Changed, Changed!

In traffic they will cut you off, barge in from left and right
They cut you in the breakdown lane to turn left at the light
They cut a half a minute here, a half a second there
The Rules Have Changed Now, Haven't They! It's like that everywhere

The rudeness is so blatant that it's hard to not fight back
I used to try to stand my ground or go on the attack
But now I'm happy to survive; I'm just a bit perplexed
The Rules Have Changed Now, Haven't They! And where's it going next?
Rules Have Changed, Rules Have Changed, Rules Have Changed, Changed!

The stories I have heard would make you shudder, then again
You've probably heard most of them and wonder where I've been
I'm learning that the old way is just something of the past.
The Rules Have Changed - hey, move it pal! I'm catching on real fast.
Rules Have Changed, Rules Have Changed, Rules Have Changed, Changed!

On the highway, The Rules Have Changed.     On TV, The Rules Have Changed.
On the job, The Rules Have Changed.     In the schools, The Rules Have Changed.
At the doctor's, The Rules Have Changed.      At the store, The Rules Have Changed.   Changed!

I'd rather be a gentleman and always keep my cool
Before I learned to cuss and cut, I learned the golden rule
It takes a little effort but it doesn't cost a dime
Go ahead and live by your rules, I can always live by mine
Rules Have Changed, Rules Have Changed, Rules Have Changed, Changed!

Common courtesy, The Rules Have Changed.    Common sense, The Rules Have Changed.
Boy and girl, The Rules Have Changed.     Family life, The Rules Have Changed.
Public trust, The Rules Have Changed.      Privacy, The Rules Have Changed.
Don't you know? The Rules Have Changed.     Loyalty, The Rules Have Changed.
Politics, The Rules Have Changed.  The Economy, The Rules Have Changed.
Biology, The Rules Have Changed.    Astronomy, The Rules Have Changed.
Harmony,  The Rules Have Changed.    The Climate, too, The Rules Have Changed.
History, The Rules Have Changed.    Girl and girl, The Rules Have Changed.

    Blues For Everyone

    TOP OF PAGE
I walked out in the rain,
    Blues all round my brain.
    Just when I'm having fun
    Blues makes me the one.

Throw me down, kick me one,
    Put me on the run.
Ain't no use if I run,
    The Blues is never done.

     Oh, yeah, never done.
Oh, yeah, The Blues is never done. Uh-huh.

Blues can make quite a pain,
    Drive you right insane
On your back - weighs a ton,
    The Blues is damnation.

Times are bad, luck is worse,
And I might die of thirst
    Sometimes I think they're done -
    The Blues is just begun.

     Oh, yeah, just begun.
Oh, yeah, The Blues is just begun. Uh-huh.

You can't hide, Blues will find -
    Better watch behind.
You think you're not the one -
    There's Blues For Everyone!

     Oh, yeah, everyone.
Oh, yeah, there's Blues For Everyone. Uh-huh, oh yeah, Everyone!

Wrap me in a package, send it overnight mail
To the Syncopated City by the underground rail
Gotta hear some Jazz up on bad old Broadway
Need some razzmatazz, blow some backbeat my way

     Gonna go - Syncopated City
And that Jazz - soundin' mighty pretty
Gonna get - down inside The Apple tonight, tonight, tonight

Meet me on the A Train, take the old MTA
I'll be headin down to Bleecker where the Bluesmen all play
Up in Lincoln Plaza we'll be dancin' all night
Then gimme some tomorrow, there'll be no end in sight

     Gonna stay - Syncopated City
And those Blues - diddy me wa diddy
Look for me - down inside The Apple tonight, tonight, tonight

There's a rolling poly-rhythm with the upbeats on top
And a pulse that keeps on pushing 'til your Be knows how to Bop
You've got one foot tipping this way and the other tapping that
Syncopated situations from your heels up through your hat

Call in the morning, tell the boss that I'm gone
'Cause the sun'll catch us moving to the slow beats at Dawn
Underneath a bridge, where the music won't stop
Huddled up where lights are blown out
Keep it down, or we'll get thrown out
Tell the bassman, keep an eye out for the sleepy-eyed cop...

It's the life - Syncopated City
Still can't sleep - feeling kind of giddy
Must have been - down inside The Apple all night, all night, all night

      Ooo, Syncopated City
Ooo yeah, yeah, yeah, Syncopated City

Dealer's Choice;  are you in or out now?
Damn this game. Just how long can this bad luck stay the same?
Well, lousy luck and worse luck -
Got to turn - it's got to turn around.

What is left of the man who knew how to lose?
Gone and left you standing in his shoes.
Don't you even know how bad it's going?
      Staying in the game.

Holding on; showing signs of breaking.
Ante in - maybe lose more than you could ever win,
Just hold your cards and bluff 'em.
Quitters lose - you know quitters lose.

Could have left the table long ago.
You've been holding out for luck to show.
Now it's just some pride that keeps you going.
      Staying in the game.

It's a lesson you learn like a wage you earn
Just jump out of the fire before you burn
Then just face whichever way luck turns you.
      Staying in the game.

    Hold your cards.

Out here on the Wrong Side Of The Door

Wet and cold and easy to ignore
Wet and cold and easy to ignore
If I'd turn and walk away
I'd get over you some day
Not see it as the Wrong Side Of The Door

Don't know why I stay here anymore
Don't know why I stay here anymore
    I could end up anywhere
Who would notice, who would care?
I'd still be on the Wrong Side Of The Door

Living on the Wrong Side Of The Door
Living on the Wrong Side Of The Door
If I could get up and go
    I don't think you'd even know
I'm always on the Wrong Side Of The Door

Both sides are the Wrong Side Of The Door
Both sides are the Wrong Side Of The Door
I get used to feeling bad
And forget the things I had
I've learned to love the Wrong Side Of The Door

    Ukulele Ragtime Blues

Made a phone call to Hawaii to my favorite rehab Doc.
I said, "Help me, Doctor Hager, I've been up all 'round the clock.
Got a pain here in my shoulder and it just won't go away
From that big electric thirteen pound guitar I play all day."

"Well it sounds to me like you've got Godfrey's Big Guitar Disease.
It'll stiffen up your shoulders and it'll buckle down your knees.
You see your health's affected by the instrument you choose
So it's time you learned to play those Ukulele Ragtime Blues."

Ukulele Ragtime   Ukulele Ragtime   Ukulele Ragtime Blues
Hear 'em holler yahoo!   over in Oahu    where the women don't wear shoes
Doctor Hager told me "You've got to take that cruise."
You can hear me cryin'   Give me those Hawaiian   Ukulele Ragtime Blues.

"Good, now go get yourelf an ukulele and call me in the morning."

So I walked up to the music store with paper in my hand.
I said, "Fill me, Mister Mullin, this prescription if you can."
So he looked me up and down and said,  "Well, just because it's you,
Even though our stock is way way down, I'll see what I can do."

Well, he found a Ukulele dated Nineteen Forty Four,
It was dirty, dusty, full of cobwebs, last one in the store.
Oh, but as he strummed that Hula tune my heart went on a jag.
In the key of D from Waikiki, that Blue Hawaiian Rag.  Oh,

Ukulele Ragtime   Ukulele Ragtime   Ukulele Ragtime Blues
Look at Mauna Loa    Is she gonna blow  'er   top or will she just refuse?
This lanai's reserved for kicking off my shoes
Strummin' and a singin'     buckin' and a-wingin'    Ukulele Ragtime Blues!

Now my back is straight, my step is light, my eyes are bright and clear.
'Cause I haven't tried to lift that fat guitar for half a year.
Now I follow Doc's prescription when I'm layin' down my sound
And I can't relax with any ax that weighs more than a pound.

    Doctor Hager, he's a genius, he's the Einstein of Kailu;
Just because he told me, Lighten up, and now that's what I do.
There are times I rattle kitchen spoons or toot my tin kazoo,
Ah, but most of all I love my little ukulele-lu.  Oh,

Ukulele Ragtime   Ukulele Ragtime   Ukulele Ragtime Blues
Sing it in the show-i    over here in Maui    where I pay my union dues
Oh, those wild wahines,  you know they can't refuse.
Shoutin' with a shimmy,    Gimme, Gimme, Gimme    Ukulele Ragtime Blues!

You can hear me cryin'   Give me those Hawaiian   Ukulele Ragtime Blues!

Oh, I like you, yes I like you all the time
Don't we like the jackpot when we don't have a dime
You might think I'm crazy when I talk like a nut
You like me, but I like you - No Matter What

        Honey, I don't care your hair's a mess
It's when you think you're trash I like you best
I like your breath, I like your sweat, I like your nasty mood
I don't care if you shave or brush your teeth or talk too crude

Because I want you, baby, even if it's wrong
Don't we want the daylight when the night is long
I can almost feel it, like a kick in the gut
You want me, but I want you - No Matter What

Sweetie, you're so special no one knows
It's thirteen years today we bought those clothes
You don't need makeup, you don't need shoes, don't need to act too nice
'Cause when my friends all look at you, it's never once but twice

And I need you, sugar, need you more and more
I'll do anything to keep you inside my door
Someday you'll be glad and tell our kids with a strut
Daddy's the one you're proud of - No Matter What

You hate it when I talk this way
You think that I can't tell?
Every time I say you look like Mama
The whole thing goes to hell
I mean everything goes to hell
The whole mood goes straight to hell

Don't know how to make you see the light
Or how to make you know that you're alright
I can't explain it, still I try, but you won't even hear
You think you're big and ugly, so am I, now get this clear

That I love you, honey, there, I've said it at last
It just makes me nervous when you move too fast
But I know you'll stay here 'cause the door's always shut
I'm gonna take care of you - No Matter What

If you want to stay happy, start your day with a song
Always let your heart be glad to hear somebody sing along
Do the things that you love and love the things that you do!
Must be true - I heard it from Dr. Yazoo!

Try to learn from your heartaches, let your dreams have their day
When you're happy, greet the whole world in a big happy way
Don't worry too much, but you can cry when you're blue
Nothing new - just take it from Dr. Yazoo!

If you want to be rich, never think about money
If you want to be loved, give your love away free
What kind of doctor offers such advice as this to you?
Here's a clue - It sounds just like Dr. Yazoo!

Doctor, my heart, we say, Doctor, my soul!
Doctor, Doctor, please, help us grow old slow!
Doctor, my eyes, we say, Doctor, my hair!
Doctor, Doctor, everything's in need of repair!

Then he calms us down and asks about the things we enjoy!
Says whenever you can, be amused, not annoyed!
That's your secret prescription; that's all that you need to do
Just help yourself to miracles, says Dr. Yazoo!

So when you're with your loved ones, say yes more than no
Know when to hold on, and know when to let go
Remember the good old times, but welcome the new
Good for you - you listened to Dr. Yazoo!

If you want to be rich, never think about money
If you want to be loved, give your love away free
What kind of doctor offers such advice as this to you?
Here's a clue - It sounds just like Dr. Yazoo!

If you want to see a lot of faces smiling at you
Give your smile first, see if that won't do
Live better, maybe longer with a sunnier view
When you do - don't forget to thank Dr. Yazoo!

Not settle for a hussy or a hound
But you're all alone, out in the seamy city
You can buy your pretty by the pound
So to ease your lust, you're wasting all this money
And when the deed is done your honey's gone
But you could just stop and try for something new, man:
Lasting love that you can count upon!

Don't you wish you had a Nice Girl, one who'd love to please you
Nice Girl, one who'd never tease you
Nice Girl, always there to ease your pain
They all say you need a Nice Girl, who'll make a decent mother
Nice Girl, forget about the others
When you have your druthers you'll remain in the arms of your
nicely dressed, cultured, and lovely Nice Girl

Have you had your fill of independent will yet?
Stop this game of Roulette, find a wife!
Just remember all the good things Mama told you
Why she tried to mold you all your life
When your Nice Girl smiles and listens when you're talking
Won't you feel like you're King of the World
Always pleasant, attentive, to obey is her incentive
You will not lament of your Nice Girl!

Don't you wish you had a Nice Girl, one who'd love to please you
Nice Girl, one who'd never tease you
Nice Girl, always there to ease your pain
They all say you need a Nice Girl, who'll make a decent mother
Nice Girl, forget about the others
When you have your druthers you'll remain in the arms of your
nicely dressed, cultured, and lovely Nice Girl

When's the last time you saw a pretty ribbon
tied up in a pretty little bow?
When's the last time you could hear an angel singing
    From an open kitchen window?
It's the Nice Girl who will make the best of lovers
At the proper place and proper time
And through thick and thin she will be yours forever
and she'll never ever cost a dime!

Don't you wish you had a Nice Girl, one who'd love to please you
Nice Girl, one who'd never tease you
Nice Girl, always there to ease your pain
They all say you need a Nice Girl, a stay-at-home mother
Nice Girl, forget about the others
When you have your druthers you'll remain in the arms of your
nicely dressed, cultured and well mannered, neat, clean,
pious and plump and lovely Nice Girl!
    Nice Girl!

    A Taste Of Your Love
from the album Big Book Of Love
    TOP OF PAGE
I would go anywhere, I would do anything
I would stop on a dime for your kiss
I would come from afar, I would fan any flame
I would pay any price for one kiss like that

I would run like a deer, I would sing like a bird
I would ring like a bell for your love
I would flash every sign, I would read every page
I would call all the shots for just A Taste Of Your Love

And I know that it won't be easy
And I know that it may not last
And I know that it's not just the obvious choice
But I know that I'm falling fast

I'd admit any crime, I'd confess any sin
I'd endure any pain for your kiss
I would crawl through the fire, I would challenge the beast
I would trade in the world for one kiss like that

I would head for the hills, I would climb to the top
I would spill all the beans for your love
I would weather the storm, I would level the field
I would turn every stone for just A Taste Of Your Love

And you think that I might not mean it
And you think that it's just some line,
And you've heard all the songs in the big book of love
But you know that it feels so fine

      Oh no - please don't - don't stop

I would beg on my knees, I would shoot for the stars
I would take any vow for your kiss
I would call any bluff, I would sail any sea
I would change anything for one kiss like that

I would take all the blame,  I would fight every foe
I would lift every load for your love
I would look like a fool, I would act like a clown
I would never look back for just A Taste Of Your Love

You can use all your wits and logic
You can say that it's just not right
You can try to resist but you lose every time
So why don't you give up the fight

      Oh no - please don't - don't stop

I would brave any test for one kiss like that
I'd go out on a limb for just A Taste Of Your, Taste Of Your Love

    Good Time Tonight
from the album Wrong Side Of The Door

You bring yours and honey, I'll bring mine.
We'll all be looking good and feeling fine.
We're gonna sing a song that'll last all night long.
It's gonna be a Good Time Tonight.

It's gonna be a Good Time Tonight.
We're gonna get it all workin' right.
A big bright moon'll be rising soon.
It's gonna be a Good Time Tonight.

Everyone who's walking will be running.
    Everyone who's anyone is coming.
There's no such thing as old and there's no such thing as cold.
It's gonna be a Good Time Tonight.

It's gonna be a Good Time Tonight.
We're gonna get it all workin' right.
A big bright moon'll be rising soon.
It's gonna be a Good Time Tonight.

I believe this lady is a good one.
Then again, I've never understood one.
She's giving me the eye, saying wait 'til by and by.
It's gonna be a Good Time Tonight.

It's gonna be a Good Time Tonight.
We're gonna get it all workin' right.
A big bright moon'll be rising soon.
It's gonna be a Good Time Tonight.

It's gonna be a Good Time Tonight.
It's gonna be a Good Time Tonight.

    Love Is What You Need
from the album Big Book Of Love
    TOP OF PAGE
When it's cold outside with no place to hide
Well, Love Is What You Need, Yeah, Love Is What You Need

When you're feeling down with no one around
Well, Love Is What You Need, Yeah, Love Is What You Need

What is true for you is just as true for paupers and kings
What you want and what you get are always different things
Quit the search and open up your mind
Because maybe love is what you will find

When you ache for more but you've closed the door
Well, Love Is What You Need, Yeah, Love Is What You Need

When it's darkest night, nothing's going right
Well, Love Is What You Need, Yeah, Love Is What You Need

Sometimes love is just a holding hand to borrow or lend
Sometimes love is just the heartbeat of your own best friend
Sometimes love comes right out of the blue
And there's someone right for someone like you

Yeah, Love Is What You Need
Oooh, I know Love Is What You Need

Oh the things love will do for you
Turn what's old into something new
Trade your old cloudy skies in for blue
Who can say what love will do!

Is it getting dark? Did you miss your mark?
Well, Love Is What You Need, Yeah, Love Is What You Need

Is your life a mess? Is your worst your best?
Well, Love Is What You Need, Yeah, Love Is What You Need

It can seem to you that finding love's a shot in the dark
Keep in mind the hottest flame was once a tiny spark
Love is here, it's never out of sight
And it won't take long to make it all right.

Yeah, Love Is What You Need
Oooh, I know Love Is What You Need

It's The Little Things That Scare Me
from the album Wrong Side Of The Door
    TOP OF PAGE
Sometimes It's The Little Things That Scare Me
The glass in the sand, the stone in the hand
It's The Little Things That Scare Me today
And it's just a little thing fifty times a day

I'll be standing over here or walking over there
Just when my life is quiet enough
When some punk who thinks he's clever gets mad at someone better
And tries to blow the whole town up

Sometimes It's The Little Things That Scare Me
The way someone looks, the best-selling books
It's The Little Things That Scare Me today
And it's just a little thing fifty times a day

Well I try hard not to worry but I don't want to be sorry
You might well call me paranoid
But experience has taught me real trouble hasn't caught me
And it won't be easy to avoid

Sometimes It's The Little Things That Scare Me
Rattling jets, toys for my pets
It's The Little Things That Scare Me today
And it's just a little thing fifty times a day

You may worry like a Mom 'bout pollution or the bomb
Hunger or the crime it brings
But the odds are almost double that the worst of all your troubles
Is bound to start with little things

Sometimes It's The Little Things That Scare Me
     Some stranger's mood, pre-packaged food
It's The Little Things That Scare Me today
Capsules in jars, children with cars, emotional scars, windstorms on Mars
It's The Little Things That Scare Me today
And it's just a little thing fifty times a day

Oh it's just a little thing, just a little thing
Well it's just a little thing each and every day
